Citations are the first factor in ranking your website up in Google.  Citations consist of your Name, Address, and Phone number.  Your NAP needs to be perfectly synchronized throughout Google.

3) Content..  Content is KING

Content is the king of the internet marketing jungle.  In the ruthless fight to get to the top of the google search results the key factor is always content.  You need massive content to get to the top of the search results.

Notice how that first page seems like it goes on forever.  The amount of content located on the first page is no mistake.  You need massive content to rank well on google.  Heck, look at the size of this blog post!

4) Backlinks - "Winning Google's Popularity Contest"

A backlink is one website linking to another.  Each backlink has a certain value depending on the Authority of the source.  For example if you get a link from Wikipedia's website to your website it'll greatly increase your website's ranking with google because of how high authority Wikipedia is.  If you can figure out how to get a link from Wikipedia please drop me a note...  I'd love one too!

Backlinking is the bread and butter of SEO.  Not all backlinks are created the same.  

Think about the people you went to High School with...  who would you want vouching for you?  The smartest kid in your class or the blabbermouth in second period who always falls asleep in science class.  

The answer to that question is obvious.  The same thing goes for Google!  You want only the best people talking about you.  So how do I get the very best backlinks?  Start with asking location businesses to link to you from their website.  Contact the local fire department, and see if they'll hook you up with a link.  Do some guest posting on popular blogs in exchange for a link.  There are many different ways to accumulate backlinks to power your google ranking.

5)  Making it look natural

Sure there are over 400 different metrics to worry about when it comes to ranking your website up in google, but you've got the 4 most important ones down pat.  Now we just gotta do it...  Naturally.  

Think about running into your gym buddy after not seeing him/her for 3 months.  Suddenly they are absolutely shredded.  What will be the first words out of your mouth?  I'd ask, what the hell are you taking?  It's pretty obvious when someone suddenly packs on 20 pounds of lean muscle.  

Google operates the same way.  If they see a website that suddenly has 100 authoritative backlinks pointing to it they start to get suspicious.
